Athos was born completely blind and so were 2 more of his littermates. His eyes are small in size (micro-opthalmia) and have a severe defect (which we can explain in more technical detail to potential adopters) and there is no possible operation for his sight. It may be necessary at a later stage to operate and remove his eyes, as one is already perforated and he may suffer from eye ulcers.
This particular breed is known to be very territorial and can become aggressive towards people and animals from outside the family if not very well socialised from an early age (if socialised they can live with dogs and cats well)... we are concerned that in a blind dog, this trait may be exaggerated if careful measures are not taken to avoid it. So, adopters will need to be prepared to take Athos to education/obedience classes, and also think about the implications for any animals/children that may join the family in the future. At the moment Athos is happy and friendly and hopefully, in the right hands, he will remain that way!
Athos needs a forever family that is aware of the problems his disability may cause. We would expect that he needs a garden, but we do not expect him to only live in the garden... your house will need a very big sofa to be able to give Athos the kind of home we are trying to find for him :-))
Our adoption process includes a questionnaire, homecheck, commitment to sterilisation and we may ask for veterinary references or recommendations from other animal rescue associations. Athos is not looking for a foster home, but for permanent adoption.

| Is er ook nederlandse vertaling  Deze pup heeft dus ook nog geen thuis begrijp ik ... en ook nog niet geadopteerd ? en is blind ...? |

| Athos is blind, zelf zo als hun 2 broertjes zijn blind geboren.. en dit blindheid is niet te opereren. Tot dat ik weet zij tot nu toe geen van de 3 geadopteerd. Denk goed over na want een blindhond te opvoeden is niet niks, zij zullen namelijk veel minder vertrowen hebben en hun karacter kan bepalde gedrag problemen presenteren. Zij kunnen dominant, agresieve, of a-social  worden als niet perfect worden opgevoed. Het zijn honden met aanwijzingen. Boven dit wordt Athos en hun broetjes een groote maat van honden. Het Caucasican Heder is wat groter en krachtig dan een duitse heder. Zij worden +/- 50kg |
